Posted: July 31, 2015
With the support of every team, player, and parent of RISE Baseball the RISE Foundation is able to provide a college grant of $5,000 to one exceptional individual from the 2015 graduating class at RISE Baseball. The RISE Baseball 2015 Graduating class has many students who have achieved amazing feats throughout their youth, all of which will continue their baseball careers at the college level. One student at RISE Baseball has truly stood out amongst the crowd, not for one exceptional attribute, but a well rounded student and an amazing young man.
RISE Baseball is proud to announce the 2015 RISE Foundation Recipient is Zach Mort; future Patriot at George Mason University. Zach not only shows incredible and unmatched work ethics year around, Zach helps pass along his passion and energy to the community.
Zach started playing baseball at the age of seven and ever since he has shown that he was not only willing to work hard, but also played the game with a chip on his shoulder. He is the type of player that will look you in the eyes and say, “I’m going to hit 90mph this year”, and he did. There was no person that could hold him back from his vision of success. His drive and ability shinned this year for Cosby. Zach was a workhorse on the mound this year throwing 78.1 innings, 97K’s, 8-2 record, 7 CG’s, only 47 hits allowed and a whopping 0.71ERA. Zach received First Team All Conference Pitcher, First Team All Region Pitcher, Second Team All State Pitcher, First Team All Metro Pitcher and Cosby MVP.
Though Zach has great numbers and received multiple honors for 2015 for his athletic performances, Zach is an even better teammate and leader both on the field and in the community. Zach has spent much of his time volunteering for multiple organizations including but not limited to: Beta Club Member, Varsity Club Member, Stadium Cleanups, Tutoring at Mu Alpha Theta, Chesterfield Little League, Senior Convocation Rep and of course RISE Baseball. In the classroom Zach has always been an A/B student since Elementary school and graduated with a 4.366 GPA and 42th out of 516 students in his class at Cosby High School. Much of this would not have been possible without the loving support of both Zach’s parents Maura and Dave Mort who always allowed Zach to be his own individual and gave him every opportunity to have success both on and off the ball field.
Zach Mort is headed to play Division One baseball at George Mason University for the 2016 Season.
