We are proud to announce that Rick was named the 2013 Central District Player of the Year. In addition to that honor, he was named 2nd-Team All-Region and was awarded Central District All Academic honors.
Rick is an electrifying player who likes to take risks, and is certainly athletic enough to do so. He brings a very fast-paced style of play to the lineup both offensively and defensively.
PITCHING: Rick pitches from a high 3/4 slot and flat out competes. His fast ball has good arm side run and tilt. Rick is very athletic, which allows him to repeat his delivery effortlessly. Armed with a sharp slider and change-up, Rick has solid control and the ability to command all pitches deep into the count.
DEFENSE: Rick is extremely versatile as a defender. He has the ability to play anywhere on the diamond. He has some experience catching at the varsity level, and he is more than capable playing in the middle infield or outfield. His natural position is probably shortstop where he is aggressive to the ball and demonstrates a lightning quick release.
OFFENSE: Spiers can drive the to all fields. He does an excellent job driving with his lower half, and he has shown good power this past fall and spring. His athleticism, ability to handle the bat, bunting skills, and speed creates countless ways to use him as a weapon in the box and on the base paths.
